Ingredients
– 1 pound thinly sliced beef (such as flank steak or sirloin)
– 1 cup fresh Thai basil leaves
– 1 cup shredded carrots
– 1 cup julienned cucumber
– 1/4 cup soy sauce
– 2 tablespoons brown sugar
– 1 tablespoon fish sauce
– 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
– 1 teaspoon sesame oil
– 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
– 8 rice paper wrappers
Instructions
1. In a medium bowl, combine the beef, soy sauce, brown sugar, fish sauce, rice vinegar, sesame oil, and red pepper flakes (if using). Toss to coat the beef and let marinate for 10-15 minutes.
2. Fill a shallow bowl or baking dish with warm water. Dip a rice paper wrapper in the water for 10-15 seconds, just until softened. Transfer the wrapper to a clean, flat surface.
3. Place a few slices of the marinated beef in the center of the wrapper, leaving about 2 inches of space on the sides. Top with a small handful of Thai basil leaves, shredded carrots, and julienned cucumber.
4. Fold the bottom of the wrapper over the filling, then fold in the sides and tightly roll up into a cylinder. Repeat with the remaining wrappers and filling.
5. Serve the Thai Basil Beef Rolls immediately, with any remaining sauce for dipping.
Notes
– For best results, use very thinly sliced beef that’s easy to roll.
– Adjust the amounts of soy sauce, fish sauce, and brown sugar to taste.
– Customize the fillings by adding thinly sliced bell peppers, bean sprouts, or other favorite veggies.
