Description
Homemade Cheddar Herb Crackers are a classic, crispy snack that’s easy to make and bursting with cheesy, herby flavor. Perfect for parties, movie nights, or anytime you crave a satisfying cracker.
Ingredients
– 2 cups all-purpose flour
– 1 teaspoon baking powder
– 1/2 teaspoon salt
– 1/2 cup unsalted butter, chilled and cubed
– 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
– 2 tablespoons finely chopped fresh herbs (such as rosemary, thyme, or parsley)
– 3-4 tablespoons cold water
Instructions
1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
3. Add the chilled, cubed butter and use a pastry cutter or your fingers to incorporate it into the dry ingredients until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
4. Stir in the shredded cheddar cheese and chopped fresh herbs.
5. Add the cold water, 1 tablespoon at a time, and mix gently until the dough just begins to come together.
6. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead briefly, just until it forms a cohesive ball.
7. Roll the dough out to approximately 1/8-inch thickness.
8. Use a sharp knife or cookie cutter to cut the dough into desired shapes, such as squares or rounds.
9. Transfer the crackers to the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 1 inch apart.
10. Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the crackers are golden brown and crisp.
11. Allow the crackers to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before serving.
Notes
For a more pronounced herb flavor, you can increase the amount of chopped fresh herbs. You can also experiment with different types of cheese, such as Parmesan or Gruyère. These crackers can be stored in an airtight container for up to 1 week.
