Description

Tender, caramelized candied yams baked in a sweet brown sugar and butter glaze, with aromatic spices like cinnamon and nutmeg. This classic holiday side dish is the perfect accompaniment to roasted turkey, ham, or any festive meal.

Ingredients

– 3 pounds sweet potatoes, peeled and cut into 1-inch cubes

– 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted

– 1/2 cup brown sugar

– 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

– 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg

– 1/2 teaspoon salt

– 1/2 cup chopped pecans

Instructions

1. Preheat the oven to 400°F.

2. In a large bowl, toss the cubed sweet potatoes with the melted butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt until well coated.

3. Spread the seasoned sweet potatoes in a single layer on a large baking sheet.

4. Bake for 25-30 minutes, stirring halfway, until the potatoes are tender and caramelized.

5. Remove from the oven and sprinkle the chopped pecans over the top.

6. Serve the candied yams warm.

Notes

For extra flavor, try adding a splash of orange juice or maple syrup to the butter-sugar mixture. You can also use a mix of sweet potatoes and regular potatoes. Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.
