Ingredients
– 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
– 3 medium apples, cored and thinly sliced
– 1/4 cup white sugar
– 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
– 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
– 1 tablespoon powdered sugar, for dusting
Instructions
1. 1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Grease a 12-cup muffin tin.
2. 2. Roll out the puff pastry sheet on a lightly floured surface into a 12×12-inch square. Cut the pastry into twelve 4×4-inch squares.
3. 3. Press each pastry square into the cups of the prepared muffin tin, gently pressing the sides to create a well for the apple slices.
4. 4. In a small bowl, mix the white sugar and cinnamon. Toss the apple slices in the cinnamon-sugar mixture until evenly coated.
5. 5. Arrange the apple slices in a circular pattern, starting from the outside and working your way in, to create rose shapes in the pastry cups.
6. 6. Brush the tops of the apple roses with the melted butter.
7. 7. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the pastry is golden brown and the apples are tender.
8. 8. Remove from the oven and let cool in the muffin tin for 5 minutes.
9. 9. Carefully remove the tarts from the tin and transfer to a serving plate. Dust with powdered sugar before serving.
Notes
For best results, use a firm, crisp apple variety like Honeycrisp or Fuji. The tarts can be made in advance and stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
