Description

Indulge in the authentic taste of New Orleans with these easy-to-make, pillowy soft New Orleans beignets, inspired by the iconic Cafe du Monde recipe. Serve warm, dusted with powdered sugar, for a delightful treat any time of day.

Ingredients

– 2 cups all-purpose flour

– 1 teaspoon salt

– 1 tablespoon granulated sugar

– 1 package active dry yeast

– 3/4 cup warm milk

– 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted

– 1 egg

– Vegetable oil for frying

– Powdered sugar for dusting

Instructions

1. In a large bowl, combine the flour, salt, sugar, and yeast.

2. Add the warm milk, melted butter, and egg, and mix until a soft dough forms.

3. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 2-3 minutes until smooth and elastic.

4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.

5. Punch down the dough and roll out on a lightly floured surface to 1/4-inch thickness.

6. Cut the dough into 2-inch squares or rectangles.

7. In a large pot or Dutch oven, heat 2-3 inches of vegetable oil to 350°F.

8. Carefully add the beignet dough squares to the hot oil and fry for 1-2 minutes per side until golden brown.

9. Remove the beignets with a slotted spoon and drain on a paper towel-lined plate.

10. Generously dust the warm beignets with powdered sugar and serve immediately.

Notes

For best results, enjoy the beignets fresh and warm. Store any leftovers in an airtight container for up to 2 days.
