Ingredients
– 1 pound boneless, skinless chicken breasts, diced
– 1 tablespoon olive oil
– 1 onion, finely chopped
– 3 cloves garlic, minced
– 1 teaspoon ground cumin
– 1 teaspoon paprika
– 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
– 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
– 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
– 1/4 teaspoon ground coriander
– Salt and pepper to taste
– 1 package puff pastry, thawed
– 1 egg, beaten with 1 tablespoon water (for egg wash)
Instructions
1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
2. In a skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the diced chicken and sauté until cooked through, about 5-7 minutes.
3. Add the chopped onion and garlic to the skillet and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes, until the onion is translucent.
4. Stir in the cumin, paprika, cinnamon, ginger, cayenne pepper, and coriander. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Mix well and remove from heat.
5. Unfold the puff pastry sheets and cut each sheet into 6 equal rectangles.
6. Place a heaping tablespoon of the chicken mixture onto the center of each pastry rectangle.
7. Fold the pastry over the filling to create a half-moon shape and crimp the edges to seal.
8. Place the briouats on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Brush the tops with the egg wash.
9. Bake for 18-20 minutes, or until the pastry is golden brown and flaky.
10. Serve the Moroccan Spiced Chicken Briouats warm, garnished with fresh herbs if desired.
Notes
For a spicier version, increase the amount of cayenne pepper. You can also experiment with different fillings, such as ground lamb or beef, or incorporate additional vegetables like diced bell peppers or spinach.
