Description

Indulge in the rich, old-fashioned flavor of homemade Molasses Brown Soda Bread. This quick and easy recipe comes together in just 1 hour, making it the perfect anytime treat. Serve it warm with a pat of butter for a truly irresistible experience.

Ingredients

– 2 cups all-purpose flour

– 1/4 cup brown sugar

– 1 teaspoon baking soda

– 1/2 teaspoon salt

– 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, cold and cubed

– 3/4 cup buttermilk

– 1/4 cup molasses

Instructions

1. – Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Grease a baking sheet or line it with parchment paper.

2. – In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, brown sugar, baking soda, and salt.

3. – Cut the cold butter into the dry ingredients using a pastry cutter or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

4. – Pour in the buttermilk and molasses, and stir just until a shaggy dough forms. Do not overmix.

5. – Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and gently knead it a few times until it comes together.

6. – Shape the dough into a round loaf and place it on the prepared baking sheet.

7. – Use a sharp knife to score an X shape on the top of the loaf.

8. – Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

9. – Allow the Molasses Brown Soda Bread to cool on the baking sheet for 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

– For a softer crust, brush the top of the loaf with melted butter or milk before baking.

– Serve the Molasses Brown Soda Bread warm, with a pat of butter, honey, or your favorite jam.

– This bread is best enjoyed the same day, but it can be stored in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
