Ingredients
– 2 cups all-purpose flour
– 2 tablespoons matcha powder
– 1 teaspoon baking soda
– 1/2 teaspoon salt
– 1 1/4 cups buttermilk
– 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
Instructions
1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Grease a baking sheet or line it with parchment paper.
2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, matcha powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined.
3. Pour in the buttermilk and melted butter, and stir just until a shaggy dough forms. Do not overmix.
4. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and gently shape it into a round loaf, about 6-8 inches in diameter.
5. Transfer the dough to the prepared baking sheet and score the top with a sharp knife, making a deep X shape.
6. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
7. Allow the Matcha Irish Soda Bread to cool on the baking sheet for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
For a richer flavor, you can substitute 1/4 cup of the buttermilk with heavy cream. Serve the bread warm, with butter, honey, or your favorite toppings.
