Ingredients
– 4 cups peeled, cored, and sliced Granny Smith apples
– 1/2 cup granulated sugar
– 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
– 3 large eggs
– 2 cups whole milk
– 1 cup heavy cream
– 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
– 1/4 cup brown sugar
– 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
– 1/4 teaspoon salt
Instructions
1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
2. In a large bowl, toss the sliced apples with the granulated sugar and cinnamon until well coated.
3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, cream, flour, brown sugar, vanilla, and salt until smooth and well combined.
4. Grease a 9-inch baking dish and arrange the sugared apple slices in an even layer.
5. Carefully pour the custard mixture over the apples, ensuring the apples are evenly coated.
6. Bake for 45-55 minutes, or until the center is set and the top is golden brown.
7. Allow the Malvern Pudding to cool for 15-20 minutes before serving.
8. Serve warm, with a dollop of whipped cream or a scoop of vanilla ice cream, if desired.
Notes
For a richer flavor, you can substitute half-and-half or evaporated milk for the whole milk. You can also add a sprinkle of nutmeg or a touch of brandy or rum to the custard mixture.
