Ingredients
– 8 cups cubed bread (sourdough or crusty bread)
– 1/2 cup unsalted butter
– 1 onion, diced
– 3 stalks celery, diced
– 2 cloves garlic, minced
– 1 tbsp fresh sage, chopped
– 1 tsp dried thyme
– 1 tsp salt
– 1/2 tsp black pepper
– 1 1/2 cups chicken or vegetable broth
Instructions
1. 1. Preheat oven to 375°F. Spread the cubed bread on a large baking sheet and toast for 10 minutes, stirring halfway, until lightly golden.
2. 2. In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the onion and celery and cook for 5-7 minutes until softened.
3. 3. Stir in the garlic, sage, thyme, salt, and pepper. Cook for 1 minute until fragrant.
4. 4. Transfer the toasted bread cubes to a large bowl. Pour the vegetable mixture and broth over the top and gently toss to combine.
5. 5. Transfer the stuffing to a baking dish and bake for 20-25 minutes, until heated through and lightly crispy on top.
Notes
For a moister stuffing, add an extra 1/4 cup of broth. Stale bread works best for a firmer texture. Can be made ahead and reheated before serving.
