Description

Homemade French Garlic Soup is a classic and comforting dish that’s easy to make and packed with flavor. This recipe features a rich and creamy broth infused with the aromatic essence of garlic, creating a warm and inviting meal perfect for chilly days.

Ingredients

– 1/4 cup unsalted butter

– 12 cloves garlic, peeled and minced

– 1 large onion, diced

– 4 cups chicken or vegetable broth

– 1 cup heavy cream

– 2 tablespoons chopped fresh thyme

– 1 bay leaf

– Salt and black pepper to taste

– Crusty bread, for serving

– Grated Parmesan cheese, for serving (optional)

Instructions

1. In a large pot or Dutch oven, melt the butter over medium heat.

2. Add the minced garlic and diced onion. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the onions are translucent and the garlic is fragrant, about 5-7 minutes.

3. Pour in the chicken or vegetable broth and stir in the heavy cream, thyme, and bay leaf. Season with salt and black pepper to taste.

4. Bring the soup to a simmer and let it cook for 15-20 minutes, or until the flavors have melded together.

5. Remove the bay leaf. Ladle the soup into bowls and serve hot, accompanied by crusty bread and grated Parmesan cheese (if desired).

Notes

For a thicker soup, you can blend a portion of the soup using an immersion blender or regular blender. You can also add a sprinkle of croutons or a drizzle of garlic oil for extra flavor and texture.
