Description

Indulge in the rich, complex flavors of this Homemade Figs Liqueur (Ficoncello). This easy-to-make liqueur is perfect for sipping, mixing into cocktails, or drizzling over desserts, showcasing the natural sweetness and depth of fresh figs.

Ingredients

– 1 pound fresh figs, roughly chopped

– 1 cup granulated sugar

– 2 cups brandy

– 1 cinnamon stick

– 3 whole cloves

– 1 star anise

Instructions

1. In a large, non-reactive container, combine the chopped figs and sugar. Stir well to coat the figs.

2. Pour the brandy over the fig-sugar mixture, making sure the figs are fully submerged. Add the cinnamon stick, cloves, and star anise.

3. Cover the container and let the mixture infuse for 4-6 weeks, stirring occasionally.

4. After the infusion period, strain the mixture through a fine-mesh sieve, pressing on the solids to extract as much liquid as possible.

5. Discard the solids and transfer the strained liqueur to a clean bottle or container. Seal and store in a cool, dark place for up to 1 year.

Notes

For best results, use fresh, ripe figs. You can experiment with different spices or citrus peels to customize the flavor profile. The liqueur can be enjoyed neat, over ice, or mixed into cocktails.
