Description

Indulge in the rich, savory flavors of this classic French Onion and Mushroom Tart, featuring a flaky pastry crust, caramelized onions, sautéed mushrooms, and melted gruyere cheese. This irresistible dish is perfect for any occasion, from a cozy dinner at home to a special gathering with friends and family.

Ingredients

– 1 sheet of puff pastry, thawed

– 2 tablespoons olive oil

– 4 large onions, thinly sliced

– 8 ounces cremini mushrooms, sliced

– 2 cloves garlic, minced

– 1 teaspoon fresh thyme, chopped

– Salt and pepper to taste

– 1 cup shredded gruyere cheese

Instructions

1. 1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).

2. 2. In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium-low heat. Add the sliced onions and cook, stirring occasionally, until they are caramelized and golden brown, about 25-30 minutes.

3. 3. Add the sliced mushrooms and garlic to the skillet and sauté for 5-7 minutes, until the mushrooms are tender.

4. 4. Season the onion-mushroom mixture with salt, pepper, and fresh thyme.

5. 5. Unfold the puff pastry sheet and place it in a 9-inch tart pan with a removable bottom, pressing it into the sides and trimming any excess.

6. 6. Spread the caramelized onion and mushroom mixture evenly over the puff pastry.

7. 7. Sprinkle the shredded gruyere cheese over the top.

8. 8. Bake the tart in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the pastry is golden brown and the cheese is melted and bubbly.

9. 9. Allow the tart to cool for 5-10 minutes before slicing and serving.

Notes

For a richer flavor, you can caramelize the onions in a mixture of butter and olive oil. You can also experiment with different types of mushrooms, such as shiitake or oyster, to add more depth of flavor. This tart can be served warm or at room temperature, making it a versatile and easy-to-prepare dish.
