Description

Indulge in the savory, cheesy goodness of Croque Madame Waffles – a delightful twist on the classic French dish. Crisp waffles are topped with ham, melted cheese, and a perfectly cooked fried egg for a satisfying and comforting breakfast or brunch.

Ingredients

– 2 cups all-purpose flour

– 2 teaspoons baking powder

– 1 teaspoon salt

– 2 cups milk

– 2 eggs

– 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted

– 8 slices ham

– 8 slices Swiss cheese

– 4 eggs, fried

Instructions

1. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.

2. In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk, 2 eggs, and melted butter.

3. Gradually pour the milk mixture into the flour mixture, stirring just until combined (do not overmix).

4. Preheat a waffle iron and lightly grease it.

5. Pour the batter onto the preheated waffle iron and cook until golden brown and crispy, about 5 minutes.

6. Top each waffle with 2 slices of ham and 2 slices of Swiss cheese.

7. Place the waffles under a broiler until the cheese is melted and bubbly, about 2-3 minutes.

8. Top each waffle with a fried egg and serve immediately.

Notes

For a richer flavor, use a combination of Swiss and Gruyère cheeses. You can also add a sprinkling of chopped chives or parsley for additional flavor.
